In a groundbreaking revelation, a staggering 77% of Gen Z students in India have expressed keen interest in pursuing careers in the technology industry, according to a report released on Monday. The comprehensive study, conducted by Nasscom in collaboration with the global hiring platform Indeed, delves into the evolving preferences and trends shaping the future of work within the tech sector in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Examining the transformative landscape across three critical pillars\u2014 the future of jobs, workforce dynamics, and the evolving workspace\u2014the report is based on a thorough survey involving 185 employers and over 2,500 individuals from current and future workforces, representing 84% of organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The survey explores the exploration of gig models by employers, current employees, and the future workforce. Startups and the Business Process Management (BPM) sector emerge as leaders in hiring gig workers, with the primary drivers for Gen Zs and Millennials opting for gig roles being flexible job locations and a focus on specialized skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sangeeta Gupta, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at Nasscom, highlighted the significant transformation in India’s tech industry. She noted a noticeable shift from traditional office settings to remote work over the past five years, followed by a recent trend of returning to office spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The future of work will be defined by the dynamic balance between efficiency improvements from automation and the expansive potential of creativity unleashed by continuous innovation,” Gupta stated. Organizations are actively understanding workforce needs, investing in various programs to create an attractive proposition for returning to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geographical expansion for talent exploration and strategic partnerships for competitive advantage and market access are key focuses for organizations. Substantial investments are being made in workspaces to draw talent back to the office and adapt efficiently to different and evolving work models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organizations are undertaking key initiatives to position themselves as employers of choice. These include redesigning offices to foster collaboration, prioritizing employee well-being, enhancing security, and ensuring sustainability. Additionally, a focus on Environmental Social Governance (ESG) initiatives, such as diversity hiring, inclusive leadership, social impact volunteering, and reducing carbon footprints, is prominent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In the ever-evolving workplace influenced by emerging generations and technological advancements, organizations must align with the expectations of Millennials and Gen Z to attract and retain top talent,” emphasized Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales India at Indeed India.
