KGMU Receives Rs 2 Crore Allocation for Diabetic Retinopathy Treatment<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lucknow, Feb 12: King George’s Medical University (KGMU) is set to enhance its capabilities in combating diabetic retinopathy, thanks to a generous allocation of Rs 2 crore by the Uttar Pradesh government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The renowned medical institution will utilize the funding to acquire cutting-edge machines and services aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of this eye condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the planned acquisitions are a wide-angle imaging system and feco emulsification services, both of which are essential for advanced diagnosis and treatment of diabetic retinopathy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diabetic retinopathy, stemming from damage to the retina’s blood vessels due to uncontrolled blood sugar levels, poses a significant threat to vision health. With close to 4 lakh people affected in Uttar Pradesh alone, the need for accessible and effective treatment is paramount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The KGMU diabetic retinopathy centre, launched in 2021 with an initial investment of Rs 2 crore, has been diligently serving patients, with up to 60 individuals receiving treatment daily. Equipped with advanced facilities such as a green laser photocoagulation machine, digital vitrectomy, and optical coherence tomography, the centre has been at the forefront of combating this debilitating condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vice-chancellor Professor Sonia Nityanand expressed gratitude for the allocation, emphasizing its potential to make a significant impact on patient care. The funding will enable the centre to offer specialized treatment and comprehensive care for diabetic retinopathy patients, making quality healthcare more accessible to a larger segment of the population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
