In a move aimed at providing relief to motorists, the Election Commission of India has directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to postpone the implementation of new toll rates on national highways until after the Lok Sabha elections. This decision came in response to a request from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new toll rates, originally scheduled to take effect from April 1, are expected to see an average increase of 5 percent. NHAI officials have clarified that the adjustment in toll rates will be made in accordance with inflationary changes, as part of the annual exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The postponement of the implementation of new toll rates will now ensure that motorists are not burdened with increased toll fees during the election period. The revised toll rates were set to be applicable on most highways and expressways across the country from April 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, the Election Commission has emphasized that any amendments to electricity tariffs by state electricity regulatory bodies should also be deferred until after the completion of polling in the respective states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
