{"id":17253,"date":"2024-05-17T21:56:58","date_gmt":"2024-05-17T16:26:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vglobenews.com\/?p=17253"},"modified":"2024-05-17T21:57:00","modified_gmt":"2024-05-17T16:27:00","slug":"kerala-high-court-stays-criminal-proceedings-against-manjummel-boys-producers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vglobenews.com\/?p=17253","title":{"rendered":"Kerala High Court Stays Criminal Proceedings Against &#8216;Manjummel Boys&#8217; Producers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Kochi, May 17, 2024<\/strong> \u2013 The producers of the hit Malayalam film &#8220;Manjummel Boys&#8221; breathed a sigh of relief on Friday after the Kerala High Court stayed criminal proceedings against them in a cheating case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The film&#8217;s three producers\u2014Babu Shahir, Soubin Shahir, and Shawn Antony\u2014are facing charges including criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, cheating, and forgery, stemming from a case registered at the Maradu police station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court&#8217;s order came in response to a petition filed by Babu Shahir, one of the three partners in Parava Films LLP, the production company behind &#8220;Manjummel Boys.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Background of the Case<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In November last year, the producers entered into an investment agreement with Siraj Hameed, who invested Rs 7 crore in the film in exchange for a 40% share of the net profit. Following the film&#8217;s success, Hameed alleged that the producers did not honor their agreement and sought legal action against them in a commercial court. The court issued an ex-parte order attaching the accounts of Parava Films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Subsequently, Hameed filed a criminal complaint, accusing the producers of cheating him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Court Proceedings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>During the hearing on Friday, the Kerala High Court stayed the criminal proceedings against the producers. The counsel for petitioner Babu Shahir argued that the full revenues and expenses for the film had not yet been settled, given that it had only been two months since its release. According to the investment agreement, Hameed was to receive his share of the profit only after all financial matters were resolved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, it was highlighted that Shahir had already paid Rs 50 lakh to Hameed and was willing to pay the remaining amount. However, he was unable to do so because the accounts were attached due to the earlier court order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Moving Forward<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The stay on criminal proceedings provides temporary relief to the producers, allowing them to focus on resolving the financial issues with Hameed.
