Thiruvananthapuram, June 24:<\/em> In a rare display of unanimity, the Kerala Assembly unanimously passed a resolution on Monday to change the state’s name from Kerala to ‘Keralam’. The resolution, moved by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, received support from both the treasury and opposition benches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resolution will now be sent to the Centre for approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This move follows a similar resolution passed in August last year, which was also unanimously supported and sent to the Centre. That resolution sought “immediate steps” to amend the state’s name under Article 3 of the Constitution, which pertains to the formation of states and any alterations to their areas, boundaries, or names. However, the previous resolution did not materialize due to a technical objection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking this into account, the Assembly decided to pass a fresh resolution on Monday, hoping to overcome the previous technical hurdle and successfully rename the state to ‘Keralam’.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
