International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8th to honor and recognize the achievements of women and to raise awareness about the gender inequalities that still exist worldwide. The theme for International Women’s Day 2023 is “Choose to Challenge,” which encourages individuals to challenge gender bias and inequality in their daily lives.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year’s theme is particularly significant, as the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted and exacerbated gender inequalities in numerous areas, including employment, education, healthcare, and domestic violence.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pandemic has disproportionately affected women, who have been on the front lines as healthcare workers, caregivers, and essential workers. Many women have also lost their jobs or had to reduce their working hours to take care of their families during the pandemic. As a result, the gender pay gap has widened, and progress towards gender equality has been set back.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the pandemic has led to an increase in domestic violence and gender-based violence, with women being more likely to experience violence and abuse during lockdowns and periods of isolation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
