Hyderabad, February 26, 2025:<\/strong> Telangana has once again recorded an all-time high in power consumption, with electricity demand soaring to 16,506 megawatts (MW) at 8:30 AM on Tuesday<\/strong>. This surpasses the previous record of 16,412 MW set on February 21<\/strong>. The state has been witnessing a continuous rise in power demand, with new peaks expected in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steady Rise in Power Consumption<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For the past week, Telangana\u2019s daily electricity demand has consistently exceeded 16,000 MW<\/strong>, with daily consumption crossing 300 million units (MU)<\/strong>. On February 21, the state recorded a usage of 313.36 MU<\/strong>, and on Tuesday, February 25, consumption slightly increased to 313.373 MU<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Factors Driving the Surge<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Experts attribute the rising power consumption to multiple factors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Agricultural Demand:<\/strong> With 70 lakh acres<\/strong> under Yasangi (Rabi) cultivation, including 55 lakh acres of paddy and over 7 lakh acres of maize<\/strong>, farmers are increasingly relying on groundwater. The state has 29 lakh borewells<\/strong> in operation, leading to higher electricity consumption for irrigation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Rising Temperatures:<\/strong> The increasing intensity of summer has led to greater usage of air conditioners, fans, and cooling appliances in urban areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Industrial Growth:<\/strong> Heavy electricity usage by industries is further contributing to the surge in demand.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Telangana has been experiencing record-breaking power demand throughout February. The highest recorded demands in recent days include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • February 22:<\/strong> 16,287 MW (308.50 MU consumed)<\/li>\n\n\n\n

    • February 19:<\/strong> 16,140 MW (307.63 MU consumed)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      The demand has consistently stayed above 14,000 MW<\/strong> since the beginning of February, and experts predict that new records may be set in March as agricultural and domestic consumption continue to rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
