Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams<\/strong> and her NASA colleague Butch Wilmore<\/strong> safely returned to Earth on March 18, 2025<\/strong>, after spending 287 days<\/strong> aboard the International Space Station (ISS)<\/strong>\u2014a mission that was originally planned to last just eight days<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their spacecraft, the SpaceX Crew Dragon<\/strong>, made a successful splashdown off the Gulf Coast of Florida<\/strong> at around 3:30 AM IST<\/strong>. The landing was marked by an unusual sight\u2014a pod of dolphins circling the capsule, adding a moment of playfulness to an otherwise intense mission. Soon after, recovery teams hoisted the capsule onto a recovery ship, where medical personnel assisted the astronauts in exiting the spacecraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, due to technical issues<\/strong> with the spacecraft, their return was delayed multiple times, forcing them to remain on the ISS for over nine months instead of the initially planned eight days. After splashdown, both astronauts were transported to the Johnson Space Center in Houston<\/strong>, where they are undergoing post-mission medical evaluations.
