Hyderabad: Six-Lane ORR-Kondapur Flyover Nears Completion, Set for Inauguration Next Month<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hyderabad, April 16:<\/em> A major infrastructure milestone is on the horizon for Hyderabad, as the long-awaited six-lane flyover connecting the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to Kondapur via Gachibowli is nearing completion. The 1.2-kilometre bi-directional flyover, taken up under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), is now in its final stages and is expected to be inaugurated next month by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Designed to ease vehicular congestion and enhance urban mobility in one of the city’s most traffic-prone corridors, the flyover is set to play a transformative role in connecting Hitec City, Kondapur, and the Financial District\u2014key economic and residential hubs in the western part of Hyderabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Relief for Gachibowli Junction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Gachibowli junction is one of the busiest intersections in the city, with thousands of vehicles passing through daily. As per data from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the peak hour traffic at the junction stood at 9,806 Passenger Car Units (PCUs) per hour in 2019, and the volume is projected to increase to 17,711 PCUs per hour by 2036. The new flyover is expected to reduce this burden considerably.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commuters will be able to enter the flyover via a ramp from the ORR and exit directly at Street No. 2 in Gachibowli, allowing them to bypass the congested Gachibowli junction entirely. The flyover ends around 300 metres before the Zilla Parishad School, streamlining travel for both local residents and those commuting to IT and corporate offices in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, outbound traffic from the city will benefit from a separate ramp that provides direct access back to the ORR, further improving vehicular flow and reducing travel time during peak hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overcoming Delays and Hurdles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Originally expected to be completed nearly a year ago, the project experienced multiple delays, primarily due to issues with utility shifting. One of the major obstacles was the relocation of electrical utilities by the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL). Although the GHMC had paid Rs 2.78 crore for the task, the delay in execution stalled progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GHMC Commissioner K. Ilambarithi had to personally intervene to resolve the impasse and ensure that the utility shifting was expedited. \u201cDespite paying the required amount, the delay caused significant setbacks. The commissioner\u2019s involvement helped remove the bottleneck,\u201d a senior GHMC official was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, with the utility-related challenges resolved and most of the civil works completed, the final phase of the project\u2014which includes road markings, signage, lighting, and removal of barricades\u2014is currently underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cost and Contractor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The flyover is being constructed at a cost of Rs 178 crore and is being executed by Venkat Rao Infra Projects, a Hyderabad-based infrastructure development firm. The project is one among several key SRDP flyovers and underpasses that have been taken up across the city to modernize its traffic network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Boost for Hyderabad\u2019s Infrastructure Vision<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This flyover is part of a larger push by the state government to upgrade road infrastructure and decongest critical junctions across Hyderabad. The SRDP has already led to the commissioning of multiple flyovers, grade separators, and underpasses across the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For tech professionals, students, and daily commuters who frequently travel between ORR, Gachibowli, and Kondapur, the flyover is poised to offer immense relief from bottlenecks and long commute times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once inaugurated, the flyover will not only serve as a vital transport artery but also stands as a symbol of the city\u2019s infrastructural progress under the current administration. GHMC officials are hopeful that the flyover will be thrown open to the public by mid-May, depending on the completion of finishing works and safety inspections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
