The application, submitted on <strong>June 23, 2025<\/strong>, under <strong>Class 31<\/strong> (agricultural and horticultural products), bears <strong>GI Application Number 1569<\/strong>. Under the guidance of <strong>Dr. Danda Raji Reddy<\/strong>, Hon\u2019ble Vice Chancellor of SKLTHU, Dr. Saidaiah conducted extensive fieldwork, engaging with farmers across Balanagar\u2019s cultivation regions to collect data and verify the uniqueness of the crop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Balanagar Custard Apple<\/strong> is cherished for its <strong>thick rind<\/strong>, <strong>rich pulp<\/strong>, <strong>few seeds<\/strong>, <strong>naturally sweet flavor<\/strong>, and <strong>long shelf life<\/strong>\u2014traits that distinguish it from other custard apple varieties and make it ideal for both <strong>fresh consumption and industrial processing<\/strong>. Its distinctiveness is rooted in the region\u2019s <strong>diverse agro-climatic conditions<\/strong>, encompassing wild forest growth, domestic farming, and border plantations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once registered, the GI tag is expected to provide <strong>legal protection<\/strong>, establish a <strong>strong brand identity<\/strong>, and boost <strong>market access<\/strong> for farmers\u2014both within India and internationally.
