Hyderabad, July 12:<\/em>
In a major welfare initiative aimed at supporting economically disadvantaged families, the Telangana government is set to begin the statewide distribution of newly sanctioned ration cards starting Monday, July 14. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will formally launch the program at a grand public event in Tirumalgiri, located in the Tungaturthi constituency of Nalgonda district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This landmark welfare program comes as a much-needed relief for thousands of families who have long been awaiting ration card approvals. The state\u2019s Civil Supplies Department, under the leadership of Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and Principal Secretary D.S. Chauhan, has finalized all necessary arrangements for the successful rollout of the scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Historic Milestone in Ration Card Distribution<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Since assuming power six months ago, the Congress-led Telangana government has sanctioned a record 5,61,344 new white ration cards<\/strong>, significantly expanding the state\u2019s social safety net. This brings the total number of ration cards in the state to 95,56,625<\/strong>, covering 3,09,30,911 beneficiaries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, the number of beneficiaries stood at 2,81,47,565. With the addition of over 27.83 lakh new beneficiaries<\/strong>, nearly 79.63% of the state’s 1.20 crore families<\/strong> are now availing benefits under the ration card scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unprecedented Progress in Just 50 Days<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The application process for new ration cards began on January 26, 2025<\/strong>. By May 23<\/strong>, a total of 2,03,156 cards<\/strong> had been sanctioned. In a remarkable show of administrative efficiency, an additional 3,58,187 cards<\/strong> were approved between May 24 and July 14<\/strong>, all within a span of just 50 days<\/strong>. During this short period, the government managed to bring 15,53,074 new beneficiaries<\/strong> under the scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commitment to Transparency Through Technology<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To ensure complete transparency and prevent irregularities, the government introduced a dedicated software system<\/strong> and made the application process available through Mee-Seva centers and online portals<\/strong>. Additionally, door-to-door awareness campaigns<\/strong> were carried out to inform eligible citizens about the process and encourage applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applicants were also provided real-time access to track their application status, reinforcing the government’s commitment to citizen-centric governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special Ration Cards Amid Legal Constraints<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Due to certain court cases that are still pending, the government will initially issue sanction letters for special ration cards<\/strong>, allowing beneficiaries to access ration supplies until full formalities are completed. This move ensures that legal hurdles do not delay relief to the needy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congress Government vs Previous Regime<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This initiative marks a stark contrast to the previous administration. Over a span of nine-and-a-half years<\/strong>, the BRS government issued merely 45,000 new ration cards<\/strong>. In comparison, the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government has sanctioned over 12 times that number in just six months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to the media, Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy highlighted the government’s commitment to the poor and marginalized. \u201cOur government has shown what is possible with dedication, political will, and transparency. We will continue to uphold these values in every welfare initiative we undertake,\u201d<\/em> he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
