Hyderabad, July 22, 2025<\/strong> \u2013 (By Sunil Veer)<\/em> \u2013 In a major milestone for Telangana\u2019s flagship welfare initiative, the Maha Lakshmi Scheme<\/em> has officially crossed 200 crore free bus rides<\/em> for women passengers, a feat achieved within just over seven months since its launch on December 9, 2023<\/em>. This landmark is being hailed as a transformative step in public transportation and women\u2019s empowerment under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To commemorate this historic achievement, statewide celebrations have been scheduled for July 23 (Wednesday)<\/em> across all 97 TSRTC depots<\/em> and 341 major bus stations<\/em> in Telangana. The festivities will be held in accordance with instructions issued by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Milestones of the Maha Lakshmi Scheme:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

  • The Telangana government has released over \u20b96,700 crore<\/em> to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) to reimburse expenses incurred through the free travel scheme for women.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The scheme has been instrumental in empowering women from all walks of life<\/em> \u2014 including students, teachers, Anganwadi workers, daily wage earners, domestic workers, and street vendors \u2014 by saving them an estimated \u20b94,000 to \u20b95,000 per month<\/em> in transportation costs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • With a surge in passenger numbers, the initiative has revitalized TSRTC services<\/em>, prompting the addition of new buses and improved frequency on high-demand routes to accommodate the increased footfall.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    • Testimonials from women passengers<\/strong>, sharing real-life stories on how the free travel scheme has positively impacted their lives and livelihoods.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
