DRDO Successfully Conducts Two Back-to-Back Test Flights of \u2018Pralay\u2019 Missile<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a major boost to India’s indigenous missile development program, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted two consecutive flight-tests of the ‘Pralay’ missile system on July 28 and 29, 2025. The tests were carried out from the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island, off the coast of Odisha, as part of User Evaluation Trials (UET) aimed at validating the missile’s minimum and maximum range capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to DRDO, both missile trials achieved pin-point accuracy, precisely following the intended trajectories and striking the designated targets. The systems performed flawlessly, meeting all test objectives. The data from the tests was collected using a wide array of tracking sensors deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR), including instruments stationed aboard ships positioned near the impact points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Technological Marvel of Indigenous Defence Capability<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Pralay\u2019 is a next-generation, solid-propellant, quasi-ballistic surface-to-surface missile developed entirely in India. Designed with cutting-edge guidance and navigation systems, the missile is capable of delivering high precision strikes against a variety of targets. It is equipped to carry multiple types of warheads, making it a versatile asset for tactical operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The missile system has been developed by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI), in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories such as the Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL), Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL), Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), Research & Development Establishment (Engineers), and ITR. The initiative also saw active participation from defence industry partners including Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), as well as several MSMEs and private sector collaborators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Induction into Armed Forces on the Horizon<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The successful trials were observed by senior scientists of DRDO, representatives from the Indian Air Force and Indian Army\u2014who are the intended users of the missile system\u2014as well as industry stakeholders involved in the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh praised DRDO and its industry partners for the successful test launches. He stated, \u201cThe \u2018Pralay\u2019 missile, equipped with modern technologies, will significantly strengthen India\u2019s defence capabilities and provide a strategic edge to our Armed Forces.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chairman of DRDO and Secretary, Department of Defence R&D, Dr. Samir V Kamat, also congratulated the scientific teams for the milestone achievement. \u201cThis marks the successful completion of Phase-1 flight-tests of the missile system, paving the way for its early induction into the Armed Forces,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
