Wild Fruits Hold the Key to Future Nutritional Security: Horticultural University VC Dr. Danda Rajireddy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hyderabad, August 30, 2025:<\/strong>
Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University Vice Chancellor Dr. Danda Rajireddy<\/strong> emphasized that wild fruits found in forests are \u201cwonderful nutritional treasures\u201d and will play a crucial role in ensuring future nutritional security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was speaking as the chief guest at the book launch of \u201cAdarana Karuvaina Adivasi Pandlu\u201d<\/em> authored by retired Principal Scientist Dr. M. Padmaiah<\/strong>, held at the Horticultural College, Rajendranagar, on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting the untapped potential of wild fruits, Dr. Rajireddy said the university will soon initiate systematic research on forest fruit species<\/strong> to document their nutritional values and explore the possibility of developing improved varieties. He added that a special program will be undertaken in collaboration with the National Biodiversity Authority, the Forest Department, and the Telangana Government<\/strong> to spread awareness among consumers about the immense health benefits of these fruits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur plan is to establish a five-acre forest of minor edible fruit crops<\/strong> in our colleges, where students and scientists can conduct detailed studies. We will also create a dedicated five-acre forest at the University campus featuring the very species described by the author,\u201d he announced.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Rajireddy urged farmers to also consider cultivating such wild fruit plants in their fields, noting that they offer both nutritional value and economic potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forest Department and Experts Speak<\/strong>
Chief Conservator of Forests Dr. Priyanka Varghese<\/strong> said that awareness about wild fruits must reach the public. She revealed that the Forest Department plans to display pictorial representations of these fruits in major parks<\/strong> across Telangana so that citizens can recognize and appreciate their value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former Chairman of the National Biodiversity Authority Dr. Achalender Reddy<\/strong> stressed that forest fruits should not only be seen as sources of nutrition but also as a vital component of biodiversity conservation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Author\u2019s Perspective<\/strong>
Author Dr. M. Padmaiah<\/strong> explained that his book was written with the sole intention of introducing forests as vast natural resources. \u201cForests are not just ecological guardians; they are also providers of rare nutritional wealth which the modern world is only beginning to understand,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
