Battula Shivadhar Reddy Appointed as New Telangana DGP<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hyderabad, Sept. 26:<\/em>
The Telangana Government has appointed senior IPS officer Battula Shivadhar Reddy<\/strong> as the new Director General of Police (DGP)<\/strong>. A 1994-batch officer, Reddy is currently serving as the state\u2019s Intelligence Chief<\/strong> and will formally assume charge as DGP on October 1<\/strong>. Government orders are expected shortly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born in Hyderabad, with roots in Tool-e-Kalan (Peddatundla) village, Ibrahimpatan mandal, Rangareddy district<\/em>, Reddy pursued his entire education in Hyderabad and holds a law degree (LL.B.) from Osmania University<\/strong>. He cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 1994 and was allotted the Andhra Pradesh cadre, later reassigned to Telangana following bifurcation in 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Distinguished Career<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Reddy has served in multiple critical positions across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He began as ASP in Visakhapatnam district (1996\u201398)<\/strong> and went on to work as Squadron Commander with the Greyhounds<\/strong>, SP in Nalgonda, Srikakulam, Nellore, and Guntur<\/strong>, and DCP (Traffic)<\/strong> and DCP (South Zone)<\/strong> in Hyderabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also served on deputation to the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK)<\/strong> as part of a peacekeeping mission. Later, as DIG<\/strong>, he headed the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB)<\/strong>, before being posted as Additional Director and Director, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB)<\/strong>. He also served as Commissioner of Police, Visakhapatnam (2012\u201314)<\/strong>, where he launched the \u201cArrive Alive<\/strong>\u201d campaign on road safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Telangana\u2019s formation, he was chosen by the TRS Government to lead the Intelligence Department<\/strong>. In December 2023, the Congress Government reinstated him as Chief of Intelligence (ADGP rank)<\/strong>, a post he continued to hold until being elevated as DGP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • As SP, Nalgonda (2000\u201302)<\/strong>, he was instrumental in ending the violent activities of the banned CPI (ML) (PW), later CPI (Maoist).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • As SP in Nellore and Guntur (2004\u201307)<\/strong>, he curbed factional and communal violence using preventive detention measures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • In 2007<\/strong>, as DCP, South Zone, Hyderabad<\/strong>, he handled the aftermath of the Mecca Masjid blast<\/strong> and subsequent tensions, engaging communities to restore peace.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • He is credited with planning the 2016 operation that eliminated gangster Nayeem<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • His initiatives in road safety and crime prevention in Visakhapatnam, including CCTV surveillance in hotels<\/strong>, drew wide appreciation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Other notable recognitions include commendations from the Intelligence Bureau (2015)<\/strong>, the \u201cAsadharan Aasuchana Kushalta Padak\u201d (2018)<\/strong>, and Certificates of Excellence (2015 & 2025)<\/strong> from the Ministry of External Affairs for his contributions to digital verification services through the Telangana Police\u2019s \u201cVeriFast<\/strong>\u201d application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
