The Telangana government has sounded a statewide alert following warnings from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rainfall across the state from June 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Monday directed officials at all levels to take proactive measures to prevent loss of life and property during the monsoon season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Acting on the instructions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the minister ordered the entire revenue and disaster management machinery\u2014from the state level down to villages\u2014to remain on high alert and closely monitor the evolving weather situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reviewing monsoon preparedness with senior officials, Srinivasa Reddy said the Southwest Monsoon is advancing rapidly and is expected to cover the entire state within the next three to four days. According to meteorological forecasts, rainfall activity is likely to intensify from June 19 and continue for nearly a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister stressed that anticipating natural disasters and implementing preventive measures is far more effective than responding after damage has occurred. He directed officials to identify vulnerable areas in advance and ensure that adequate precautionary measures are put in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials informed the meeting that the Southwest Monsoon entered southern Telangana through Jogulamba Gadwal district on June 8 and has since progressed through Hyderabad and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts. By June 14, the monsoon had covered all districts in southern Telangana and several districts in central Telangana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The state has received 49.2 mm of rainfall since June 1, compared to the normal average of 54.9 mm, reflecting a rainfall deficit of around 10 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Srinivasa Reddy instructed officials to continuously monitor weather bulletins issued by the Meteorological Department and maintain close coordination with District Collectors, revenue officials and Disaster Management personnel. He also called for round-the-clock vigilance in districts likely to receive heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stating that the protection of lives and property remains the government’s foremost priority, the minister said the administration led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is committed to ensuring public safety during the monsoon season.
