Marie Wilson<\/strong> tables the revised Budget for the 2026-27 financial year in the State Assembly on <strong>August 5<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Assembly Speaker <strong>J.C.D. Prabhakar<\/strong> announced on Tuesday that the Budget will be presented at <strong>10 a.m. on August 5<\/strong>, while the <strong>Agriculture Budget<\/strong> will be introduced a day later, on <strong>August 6<\/strong>, by Agriculture Minister <strong>Vinoth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The revised Budget will be the maiden Budget of the <strong>TVK government<\/strong> after it assumed office earlier this year and is expected to outline the administration&#8217;s fiscal priorities, expenditure plans and policy initiatives for the remainder of the financial year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Budget assumes added significance as it comes against the backdrop of mounting financial challenges highlighted by the new government soon after taking office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The previous <strong>DMK government<\/strong> had presented an interim Budget for 2026-27 ahead of the Assembly elections, estimating <strong>revenue receipts at \u20b93.44 lakh crore<\/strong> and <strong>revenue expenditure at \u20b93.93 lakh crore<\/strong>, resulting in a projected <strong>revenue deficit of \u20b948,697 crore<\/strong>. The <strong>fiscal deficit<\/strong> was estimated at <strong>\u20b91.22 lakh crore<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, after assuming office, the TVK government released a White Paper on the State&#8217;s finances, presenting a more challenging fiscal outlook. According to the report, Tamil Nadu&#8217;s <strong>total outstanding debt<\/strong> has climbed to <strong>\u20b913.18 lakh crore<\/strong>, placing significant pressure on the State&#8217;s finances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The White Paper also projected that the <strong>revenue deficit could widen to around \u20b990,500 crore<\/strong>, while the <strong>fiscal deficit may rise to nearly \u20b91.64 lakh crore<\/strong>. It further noted that the State&#8217;s maximum borrowing capacity is estimated at <strong>\u20b91.52 lakh crore<\/strong>, potentially leaving a <strong>financing gap of about \u20b911,600 crore<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Against this backdrop, the revised Budget is expected to provide a clear strategy for bridging the fiscal gap while continuing welfare schemes, financing infrastructure and development projects, and maintaining capital expenditure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Economists, industry stakeholders and political observers will also closely watch the Budget for possible taxation measures, resource mobilisation plans and sector-specific allocations that are expected to shape Tamil Nadu&#8217;s economic and development agenda for the remainder of the 2026-27 financial year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government will present its first full financial roadmap since the change of regime when Finance Minister N.
