The move is likely to intensify the ongoing differences between the Tata Sons board and Tata Trusts, the group holding company&#8217;s largest shareholder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chandrasekaran, who has served as Tata Sons chairman since 2017, had announced last month that he would not seek reappointment after his current term ends in February. The decision followed the failure of the Tata Sons board to reach a consensus on extending his tenure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, at its September 17, 2026 meeting, the Tata Sons board requested Chandrasekaran to reconsider his decision. He agreed, following which the board voted by majority to reappoint him for a further five-year term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Tata Sons, Tata Trusts had earlier passed a unanimous resolution on July 28, 2025, appreciating Chandrasekaran&#8217;s stewardship of the Tata Group and resolving that he be reappointed as Executive Chairman for another five years after the completion of his existing term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reappointment has nevertheless sparked a fresh dispute. <strong>Noel Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts, which holds a 66% stake in Tata Sons, reportedly described the reappointment as &#8220;illegal.&#8221;<\/strong> The disagreement has raised questions over the governance and future leadership of the Tata Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tata Stocks Rally<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The announcement also had an immediate impact on the stock market.
