India\u2019s fiscal deficit stood at \u20b97.10 lakh crore during the first five months of FY2026-27 (April-August)<\/strong>, accounting for 41.9 per cent of the full-year Budget Estimate<\/strong>, according to official data released by the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Centre has budgeted a fiscal deficit of \u20b916.96 lakh crore<\/strong> for FY27. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman<\/strong> had set the fiscal deficit target at 4.3 per cent of GDP<\/strong> for the financial year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Centre\u2019s Revenue Collections<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The government received \u20b913,67,709 crore<\/strong> during April-August, which represents 37.5 per cent<\/strong> of the total receipts estimated for 2026-27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The receipts included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Net tax revenue:<\/strong> \u20b98,37,921 crore<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Non-tax revenue:<\/strong> \u20b94,54,549 crore<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Non-debt capital receipts:<\/strong> \u20b975,239 crore<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The Centre transferred \u20b95,90,391 crore<\/strong> to state governments as their share of taxes during the period, which was \u20b960,243 crore lower<\/strong> than the corresponding period of the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Expenditure at \u20b920.78 Lakh Crore<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The Centre\u2019s total expenditure during April-August stood at \u20b920,77,958 crore<\/strong>, or 38.9 per cent<\/strong> of the FY27 Budget Estimate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Of the total expenditure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Revenue expenditure:<\/strong> \u20b915,68,009 crore<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Capital expenditure:<\/strong> \u20b95,09,949 crore<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Interest payments:<\/strong> \u20b95,14,810 crore<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Major subsidies:<\/strong> \u20b91,87,037 crore<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Net tax revenue reached 29.2 per cent of the full-year estimate<\/strong>, compared with 28.6 per cent during the corresponding period last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Non-tax revenue stood at 68.2 per cent of the annual target<\/strong>, compared with 75.5 per cent in the year-ago period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Centre to Borrow \u20b97.86 Lakh Crore in Second Half<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
