According to an official statement, the district administration and rescue teams have intensified efforts to remove huge boulders and layers of mud to recover those trapped beneath the debris. The relentless efforts of the personnel deployed at the site resulted in the recovery of five bodies on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Aruna Pradhan (7), Bhumika Pradhan (27), Bijaya Pradhan (25), Bagri Pradhan (1) and Bijayalaxmi Pradhan (6). Three of the victims were minors. Their identities were confirmed by family members.

The bereaved families decided to perform the last rites at the accident site itself. Respecting their wishes, the district administration extended all necessary assistance to conduct the funeral ceremonies.

The state government expressed solidarity with the affected families and said that special teams from the district administration, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and Fire Services remain deployed at the site. Rescue operations are continuing to locate and safely recover the remaining missing persons.

Earlier, rescue teams had recovered two more bodies during search operations, taking the total number of recovered bodies to seven.

Around 13 people were initially reported missing after the massive landslide struck the hilltop hamlet on October 28. The settlement was home to approximately 25 people.

The landslide sent enormous boulders and thick layers of mud rolling down the hillside, burying several houses. Some of the boulders are reportedly as large as houses, making their removal extremely difficult.

Rescue operations have been challenging as the mud and debris cannot be cleared until the massive boulders are removed. Teams continue to work at the site in an effort to trace the remaining missing persons.
