BJP Announces Third List of Candidates for Telangana Assembly Elections

Hyderabad :

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its third list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Telangana, scheduled for November 30. Notable figures among the 35 candidates include former ministers Krishna Yadav, J. Chittaranjan Das, P. Babu Mohan, Marri Shashidhar Reddy, and NVSS Prabhakar.

The Central Election Committee of the BJP has approved this third list, bringing the party’s total number of announced candidates to 88 out of 119 Assembly seats.

The initial list of 52 candidates was released on October 22, while the second list included only one candidate.

Notably absent from the candidate list are the names of state BJP president and Union minister G. Kishan Reddy, MP K. Laxman, and actor-turned-politician Vijayashanti.

Krishna Yadav, who recently left the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to join the BJP, is set to contest from the Amberpet constituency in the state capital. It’s worth noting that Kishan Reddy had previously contested from Amberpet in 2018 but was elected to the Lok Sabha from Secunderabad in 2019.

Krishna Yadav previously served as a minister during the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) regime in united Andhra Pradesh from 1999 to 2001. He was arrested in September 2003 by the Maharashtra Police for alleged involvement in a multi-crore stamp paper scam and was released in 2006. Yadav rejoined the TDP in November 2012 but later switched allegiance to the TRS (now BRS) after the formation of Telangana state.

Chittaranjan Das, who defected to the BJP after being denied a ticket by the BRS, is slated to contest from Jadcherla. In 2019, he resigned from the Congress to join the TRS.

Marri Shashidhar Reddy, who switched from the Congress to the BJP last year, has been named as the candidate for the Sanathnagar constituency, a seat he previously represented. Shashidhar Reddy, the son of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Marri Chenna Reddy, was elected from Sanathnagar in 1992, 1994, 2004, and 2009.

Actor-turned-politician P. Babu Mohan will contest from the Andole (SC) constituency. He joined the BJP in 2018 after leaving the TRS when he was denied a ticket to contest the Assembly election. Babu Mohan, known for his comedy roles in Telugu films, entered politics by joining TDP in the 1990s and was first elected from Andole in 1998 by-elections. He served as the minister for labor in Chandrababu Naidu’s cabinet in the then unified Andhra Pradesh. In 2014, he joined TRS and was elected to the first Telangana Assembly from Andole.

Additionally, BJP state vice-president NVSS Prabhakar will be contesting from Uppal constituency.
