Hyderabad, December 3:

Following a decisive victory in the Assembly elections, the Congress party has formally asserted its right to form the government in Telangana. A delegation of Congress leaders, including party General Secretary Manikrao Thakare, Telangana state President A. Revanth Reddy, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, AICC observers, and former state President Uttam Kumar Reddy, met with Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan at Raj Bhavan on Sunday night.

During the meeting, they submitted a list of the newly-elected Congress MLAs to the Governor, staking a claim with a total of 65 MLAs. A subsequent meeting of the newly-elected MLAs is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Monday. Shivakumar, addressing the media, mentioned the Congress party’s internal procedure for selecting a leader, indicating that a resolution might be passed during the meeting, urging the party’s Central leadership to nominate the leader.

The newly-elected MLAs have started arriving at Ella Hotel in Gachibowli, with expectations that A. Revanth Reddy, who led the party’s successful campaign, may be named as the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader by the central leadership. It remains unclear whether the new Chief Minister will take the oath on Monday or at a later date.
