*President Droupadi Murmu Commences Five-Day Southern Sojourn in Hyderabad* Hyderabad, Dec 18: President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Hyderabad on Monday for a five-day visit to the southern region. Welcoming her at Begumpet Airport were Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy,
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and ministers Seethakka and Sridharbabu. Accompanied by Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari, Director General of Police Ravi Gupta, and other officials, the President proceeded to Rashtrapati Nilayam, the official presidential retreat in Bolarum, Secunderabad, where she will stay until December 23. During her visit, President Murmu is scheduled to participate in various programs. On December 19, she will attend the centenary celebrations of the Hyderabad Public School.
The following day, the President will visit the handloom and spinning unit, as well as the theme pavilion organized by the Ministry of Textiles, at Pochampally in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, where she will engage with local weavers. Later that evening, President Murmu will be a guest at the golden jubilee celebrations of MNR Educational Trust.
On December 21, she is set to inaugurate various projects at Rashtrapati Nilayam. A highlight of the visit is an At Home Reception hosted by the President on December 22 at Rashtrapati Nilayam, where dignitaries of the state, leading citizens, academics, and more will be in attendance. This marks President Murmu’s second southern sojourn to Hyderabad since assuming office in July last year.
The tradition of the President staying at Rashtrapati Nilayam and conducting official business from the historic venue dates back to the building’s construction in 1860 as the British Resident’s country house. Since Hyderabad State’s accession to India in 1948, every President has continued this annual tradition, spending at least one week in Hyderabad each year.
