
Government of India Initiates High-Level Committee for “One Nation, One Election”

In a significant move, the Government of India has formed a High-Level Committee to explore the feasibility of simultaneous elections across the nation. The Gazette Notification No. 211, dated September 2, 2023, outlines the committee’s mandate, which includes recommending a legal and administrative framework, proposing amendments to the Constitution and related election laws, and addressing logistical aspects like common electoral rolls and EVMs/VVPATs.

Members of the general public are invited to contribute their suggestions in writing by January 15, 2024. These suggestions will be considered by the Committee in their decision-making process.
