Varanasi, Janurary 13
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the MV Ganga Vilas, the world’s longest river cruise ship. The ship, operated by the Assam Bengal Navigation Company, will cover a distance of 3,200 km through 27 rivers in India and Bangladesh, starting in Varanasi and ending in Dibrugarh, Assam. The 51-day journey will take passengers to 50 popular tourist destinations along the way.
Modi emphasized the importance of river tourism in the development of the local economy and invited foreign tourists to experience the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of the region. He said, “MV Ganga Vilas is a symbol of our commitment to the development of the Ganges and its tributaries as a major tourism destination. It will provide employment opportunities to local people and give a boost to the local economy. The cruise will also help to promote the rich cultural heritage of the region.”
The MV Ganga Vilas is equipped with luxurious facilities, including a spa, fitness center, library, and open-air dining area. The Assam Bengal Navigation Company plans to launch similar cruises on other major rivers in the country in the future.
