Title: United Opposition Forum Demands Assam CM’s Resignation Over Alleged Attacks on Congress Leaders

Guwahati, Jan 22: The United Opposition Forum (UOF), a coalition of several parties in Assam, has called for the resignation of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, citing his perceived “failure” to maintain law and order as the reason behind alleged attacks on Congress leaders during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by former Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

Demands for Resignation:
UOF General Secretary and leader of Assam Jatiya Parishad, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, along with Raijor Dal Chief Akhil Gogoi, addressed the media, asserting that Sarma should resign from his post in light of the attacks on the leader of the largest opposition party, Rahul Gandhi.

Alleged Attacks Details:
The opposition leaders claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s convoy was attacked by “hired goons” of the BJP, who also reportedly “pelted stones” at the car of Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh and “injured” Assam unit Congress chief Bhupen Borah in Sonitpur district on Sunday.

Failure to Maintain Law and Order:
The UOF leaders argued that even if Chief Minister Sarma did not incite these attacks, it reflects his failure to maintain the law and order situation in the state. They emphasized that the attacks brought disgrace to Assam’s reputation for hospitality and highlighted Sarma’s alleged inability to protect opposition leaders and citizens.

Resignation Demand:
Consequently, the United Opposition Forum called for Sarma to accept responsibility for the situation and tender his resignation immediately.

This development underscores the political tensions in Assam, with the opposition holding the Chief Minister accountable for the alleged attacks during a prominent political event.
