Andhra Pradesh Government Successfully Concludes Veligonda Irrigation Project

Amaravati: In a significant achievement, the Andhra Pradesh government has accomplished the construction of the second tunnel in the Veligonda irrigation project, providing a lifeline for farmers in drought-affected regions.

This milestone ensures the irrigation of 4.47 lakh acres in Prakasam, Nellore, and YSR districts, offering a lasting solution to the drinking water scarcity faced by 15.25 lakh people across 30 mandals in these districts.

Fulfilling Chief Minister Jagan’s commitment to supporting farmers, the Veligonda project’s completion is a testament to the state’s dedication to agricultural prosperity. The feeder channel, facilitating the transfer of water from Srisailam to Nalla Mala Sagar reservoir, plays a pivotal role in this achievement. The Nallamala Sagagar reservoir, integral to Veligonda, was a cherished project of the late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

With a designed capacity of 53 tmc ft, the Veligonda project emerges as the much-needed lifeline for drought-hit regions, ensuring a sustainable source of irrigation water for three crucial districts.
