36 Prisoners Test Positive for HIV in Lucknow District Jail

Lucknow, Feb 4: The number of HIV-infected prisoners in Lucknow District Jail has risen to 47, with 36 new cases reported recently.

All 36 individuals have been admitted to a hospital in Lucknow for treatment. Prior to this, 11 prisoners had tested positive for HIV, bringing the total tally to 47.

The diagnosis was made during health tests conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Health Department in December 2023.

In response to the situation, the jail administration has initiated counselling sessions for the affected prisoners and implemented dietary changes to support their health. Authorities are closely monitoring the condition of all infected individuals, who are receiving treatment at the Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) Centre at KGMU.

Jail Superintendent Ashish Tiwari stated that the health screenings were conducted under the directives of the state AIDS Control Society.

The prison authorities remain vigilant and committed to providing necessary support and medical care to the affected prisoners.
