Movie Review: “Bubblegum”
Starring Roshan Kanakala, “Bubblegum” hit theaters on December 29 last year, directed by Ravikanth Perepu. However, it failed to garner the expected response during its theatrical run. Now available for streaming on ‘Aha’ since the 9th of this month, let’s delve into this routine love story and see what it offers.
The plot revolves around Aadi (Roshan), a middle-class boy with aspirations of becoming a DJ despite his father’s chicken shop business. When he encounters Jahnavi (Maanasa Choudhary), a girl with a nonchalant attitude towards relationships, his life takes a romantic turn. However, misunderstandings and complexities arise, testing their love and determination.
Director Ravikanth Perepu attempts to present a tale of love but falls short in delivering a compelling narrative. While the initial setup is promising, the lack of depth in character development and storytelling hampers the audience’s engagement. The love story feels familiar and lacks the freshness needed to captivate viewers.
The portrayal of emotions and reactions, particularly by the protagonist, feels exaggerated and reminiscent of other films like ‘Arjun Reddy’. Additionally, the absence of a strong comedy track and impactful songs further dilutes the viewing experience, making it seem like just another run-of-the-mill love story.
Despite the shortcomings in the script and execution, Roshan Kanakala delivers a commendable performance in his debut role, supported adequately by Maanasa Choudhary. Sricharan Pakala’s music and Suresh Raghut’s cinematography add some charm to the film, albeit not enough to salvage its overall impact.
In conclusion, “Bubblegum” falls short of delivering the expected punch and ends up being a forgettable addition to the romance genre. With more refinement in storytelling and character development, future endeavors from the team could yield better results.
