The Telangana Congress government, prioritizing the fulfillment of its electoral promises, is gearing up to implement another significant assurance. The ‘Gruhajyothi’ initiative, aimed at providing up to 200 units of free electricity to households, along with the guarantee of gas cylinders for Rs. 500, is scheduled to be launched on either the 27th or 29th of this month.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy issued directives to officials during a cabinet subcommittee meeting held on Thursday to expedite the implementation of these two schemes. He emphasized that ‘zero’ electricity bills should be issued from the first week of March.
CM Revanth Reddy instructed that gas cylinders should be provided at Rs. 500 to all eligible beneficiaries under public governance. He inquired about the feasibility of directly transferring the subsidy to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts and urged officials to adopt a citizen-centric approach, coordinating with gas agencies if necessary.
The Chief Minister specified that the ‘Gruhajyothi’ scheme should benefit all holders of white ration cards consuming up to 200 units of electricity per month. Additionally, he mandated the provision of opportunities for rectifying any errors in applications related to ration cards or other details. Applicants with corrected information would become eligible for free electricity from the subsequent month.
He proposed disseminating this information through flex banners in every village. The crucial cabinet subcommittee meeting convened at the Secretariat on Thursday saw the attendance of CM Revanth Reddy, Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Sridhar Babu, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, CM’s advisor Ven Narendra Reddy, Chief Secretary Shantikumari, Special Chief Secretary for Finance Ramakrishna Rao, Commissioner of Civil Supplies Department DS Chauhan, CMDs of Transco-Genco Rizvi, and Chief Secretary to CM Sheshadri.
