Chandigarh, Feb 23: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced a financial aid of Rs 1 crore for the family of Shubhkaran Singh, a young farmer who tragically lost his life this week at the Punjab-Haryana border.
In a statement on X, the Chief Minister expressed his condolences and pledged support to the bereaved family. He assured that Shubhkaran Singh’s younger sister would be offered a government job as part of the assistance package.
Mann reiterated the government’s commitment to take legal action against those responsible for the farmer’s death. He emphasized that appropriate measures would be taken after a thorough investigation, including the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against the culprits, ensuring they face exemplary punishment.
Asserting solidarity with the deceased farmer’s family during this difficult time, Mann affirmed that they would receive both social and economic assistance from the state government.
Reflecting on his efforts to facilitate dialogue between farmers and the Union government, Mann expressed regret that a consensus had not been reached. Despite his role as a mediator, the desired outcome remained elusive.
