In Hyderabad, a man from Odisha, identified as Ananta Kumar Barak, has been arrested for selling Ganja-laced chocolates, the police reported.
Acting on a tip-off, Balanagar police raided Barak’s shop in the Balanagar area and seized 140 Ganja chocolates. Barak admitted to selling these chocolates to laborers and students.
This incident is part of a recent trend of such seizures in Hyderabad, with many cases involving migrant workers from Odisha. These workers distribute the chocolates for free initially, targeting co-workers and students, and later begin selling them once addiction sets in.
Each 5-gram chocolate, sold for Rs 20, contains 14 percent Ganja leaf extract.
The police have intensified their drive against drugs in the state, seizing Ganja-laced chocolates from various locations, including shops near schools.
In recent incidents, ganja chocolates weighing a total of 41.5 kg were seized. In one case, a worker from Balasore, Odisha, was caught with 3.6 kg of ganja chocolates in Kokapet, where he worked at a construction site. Similarly, another worker from Balasore was found selling 35.2 kg of ganja chocolates from a paan shop in Ramanthapur.
Additionally, two men from Uttar Pradesh were arrested for selling ganja-laced chocolates in Hafeezpet, with the police seizing 2.7 kg of chocolates from them.
