New Delhi, April 2: In a significant move, the BMW Group and Tata Technologies have announced the establishment of an automotive software and IT development hub spanning locations in Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
The joint venture (JV) aims to deliver cutting-edge automotive software, including software-defined vehicle (SDV) solutions tailored for BMW Group’s premium vehicles, alongside digital transformation solutions for its business IT operations.
Commencing operations with an initial workforce of 100 employees, the JV has ambitious plans to expand its manpower into the four digits in the coming years, as stated in a joint statement released by the companies.
Christoph Grote, Senior Vice President of Software and E/E Architecture at BMW Group, emphasized India’s rich pool of software talent, noting its potential contribution to the group’s software competence. He highlighted the opportunity for Indian software engineers to shape premium automotive experiences in fields such as highly automated driving and artificial intelligence.
While Bengaluru and Pune will serve as the primary hubs for development and operations activities, Chennai’s focus will be on providing business IT solutions within the JV framework.
The collaboration will leverage Tata Technologies’ expertise in digital engineering and its talent pool in India to bolster the BMW Group’s strategic expansion of software coding capabilities across global IT hubs, ensuring 24/7 operations.
