Elon Musk Set to Visit India, Eyeing Mega Investment in EV Sector
Tech mogul Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is reportedly planning a visit to India later this month to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and unveil his ambitious investment plans. Although an official confirmation of Musk’s visit is yet to be announced by the billionaire entrepreneur or his electric car company, sources suggest that the meeting with PM Modi is scheduled for the week of April 22 in New Delhi, as per Reuters.
Accompanied by key executives from Tesla, Musk is expected to disclose his investment intentions, including the establishment of a potential $2-3 billion manufacturing facility in India. The planned visit underscores India’s push for electric vehicle (EV) adoption.
Musk has emphasized the inevitability of electric vehicles, stating that “all vehicles will go electric” in due course. India, in line with global trends, is anticipated to witness a surge in electric car usage. Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu are said to be Tesla’s prime choices for EV manufacturing and export.
During PM Modi’s visit to the US last year, he extended an invitation to Musk to explore investment opportunities in India’s e-mobility sector. Now, Musk’s impending visit signals a significant step towards realizing this vision.
