Telangana’s Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, has unveiled a promising initiative for the state’s workforce venturing abroad, particularly to Gulf nations. In a recent gathering with Gulf trade union leaders at Hyderabad’s Taj Deccan, he disclosed plans to introduce a comprehensive policy tailored for overseas employment.

Key highlights of the initiative include the establishment of the Telangana Gulf and Overseas Welfare Board, which will be overseen by an appointed IAS officer. With a committed timeline, CM Revanth Reddy aims to have this system operational by September 17. The move comes as a beacon of hope for approximately fifteen lakh families in Telangana reliant on employment opportunities in Gulf countries.

Drawing inspiration from successful models implemented in the Philippines and Kerala, the government is meticulously studying international and domestic policies concerning overseas workers. As part of the comprehensive scheme, a provision has been made to provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh in the unfortunate event of a worker’s demise while employed in the Gulf.

Moreover, echoing the state’s progressive Rythu Bima scheme, plans are underway to institute insurance coverage for Gulf workers, ensuring their financial security and well-being. Additionally, a dedicated toll-free helpline will be established to aid Telangana’s expatriate community in times of distress.

CM Revanth Reddy underscored his administration’s unwavering commitment not only to the welfare of those employed abroad but also to the health and security of their elderly parents back home. This initiative marks a significant step towards safeguarding the interests of Telangana’s workforce in the global arena.
