The Hyderabad Police have seized 164 kg of ‘ganja’ (cannabis) and arrested six inter-state drug peddlers in a significant crackdown on narcotics. Acting on credible information, the Commissioner’s Task Force, South West Zone Team, apprehended the drug peddlers within the limits of Humayun Nagar and Bhavani Nagar police stations.
Details of the Seizure
S. Rashmi Perumal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Commissioner’s Task Force, briefed the media on Sunday, revealing that property worth Rs 60 lakh was seized in both cases.
First Case: Humayun Nagar
In the first operation, three drug peddlers were apprehended in the Paramount Colony, Tolichowki area, with 100 kg of ganja. The accused, Dharavath Ravi from Kamareddy district, Syed Bahadur, and Ananda Ramji Kadam from Nanded, Maharashtra, were caught with the narcotics.
Ravi, previously arrested in an NDPS case in Maharashtra, had traveled to Muchumput, Odisha, where he purchased 32 packets of ganja (100 kg) from a cultivator named Govind. The trio transported the ganja to Hyderabad in a Hyundai Accent car. Acting on a tip-off, the Task Force apprehended them near Paramount Colony.
Second Case: Bhavani Nagar
In a separate operation, the Task Force arrested three more individuals and seized 64 kg of ganja. The accused were identified as Shaik Parvez, Abdul Rawoof, and Mohammed Anwar.
Shaik Parvez, a Hyderabad native, had previous involvements in two NDPS cases, including one in Ravulapalem, Andhra Pradesh. During his incarceration in Rajahmundry Jail, Parvez met a ganja cultivator and peddler named Deepak from Kalimela, Odisha. After his release in April 2024, Parvez planned to peddle ganja to make easy money. He contacted Deepak, who arranged for the ganja to be transported to Hyderabad via RTC buses.
The Task Force, acting on credible information, apprehended the accused in two cars and a two-wheeler.
Conclusion
This significant bust highlights the Hyderabad Police’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking. The arrests and seizures serve as a warning to drug peddlers operating across state lines. The police are committed to continuing their vigilance and enforcement actions against narcotics distribution in the city.
