Hyderabad July 25,2024

The Telangana government will present its budget for the financial year 2024-25 in the assembly today. The budget, approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at 9 a.m., will be introduced by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka at 12 noon in the Legislative Assembly. IT Minister Sridhar Babu will present the budget in the Legislative Council.

This marks the first full budget presented by the Congress after coming to power. In February this year, the government introduced an interim budget of Rs. 2.75 lakh crore. However, the new budget is expected to be between Rs. 2.80 lakh crore and Rs. 2.90 lakh crore. The Revanth Reddy administration is anticipated to allocate substantial funds towards welfare and development sectors.

Significantly, more than Rs. 50,000 crore is likely to be allocated for implementing the guarantees made by the Congress during the elections. Specifically, the agriculture department may receive over Rs. 50,000 crore, with Rs. 30,000 crore for loan waivers and Rs. 15,000 crore for the Rythu Bharosa Pathakam scheme. Additional allocations may include Rs. 40,000 crore for welfare departments, Rs. 29,000 crore for the irrigation sector, Rs. 15,000 crore for the electricity department, Rs. 15,000 crore for the medical department, and Rs. 8,000 crore for the Indiramma housing scheme.

Former Chief Minister and opposition leader K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) is expected to attend the assembly sessions for the budget presentation. This will mark his first appearance in the assembly as the leader of the opposition, having been absent during the previous interim budget session. Party sources indicate that KCR will participate in the budget discussions.
