Rahul Gandhi Criticizes BJP Over Recent Attacks on Minorities in Haryana and Maharashtra

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP, Rahul Gandhi, on Sunday, sharply criticized the central government over recent incidents in Charkhi Dadri, Haryana, and Dhule, Maharashtra. He accused the ruling BJP of failing to address ongoing attacks on minorities, particularly Muslims, and of allowing hate-fueled violence to persist unchecked.

Taking to the social media platform X, Gandhi shared images from the incidents and condemned the government’s inaction. He stated, “Those who use hatred as a political weapon are spreading fear across the country. These hate-filled elements, hiding behind crowds, are openly challenging the rule of law and spreading violence. The BJP government has given them a free hand, which is why they have the audacity to act with impunity. Attacks on minorities, particularly Muslims, continue unabated, while the government remains a passive observer.”

Gandhi emphasized the need for stringent action, saying, “Strict and severe action must be taken against such anarchic elements to uphold the rule of law. Any attack on India’s communal unity and the rights of its citizens is an attack on the Constitution, which we will not tolerate. No matter what the BJP tries, we will win this historic battle to unite India against hatred.”

The incidents he referred to include a violent attack in Charkhi Dadri, Haryana, where a group of cow vigilantes assaulted two migrant workers from West Bengal on suspicion of consuming beef. This assault resulted in the death of one worker and left the other seriously injured. Police have since arrested five members of the vigilante group and detained two minors in connection with the incident.

In another incident in Maharashtra, an elderly man was assaulted on a train in Dhule on suspicion of carrying beef. The victim, Ashraf Ali Syed, was en route to his daughter’s home in Malegaon when he was attacked, and a video of the assault has gone viral on social media.

Rahul Gandhi’s statements have sparked a debate on the increasing communal violence in India and the role of the government in safeguarding minority rights. His call for action highlights the ongoing political battle over India’s social and communal harmony.
