Karnataka Police File Charges Against Actress Hema and 87 Others in Bengaluru Rave Party Case

Bengaluru, Sep 12: The Karnataka Police have submitted a 1,086-page charge sheet to the Bengaluru Rural Additional District Sessions Court, naming Telugu actress Hema and 87 others in connection with a rave party busted at a farmhouse near Bengaluru in May 2024. The party, themed “Sunset to Sunrise Victory,” took place on May 20 and was attended by around 100 people, including tech professionals, Telugu actors, and others.

The charge sheet reveals that Hema had consumed MDMA (ecstasy), a substance known for its stimulant and psychedelic effects. Her medical reports confirmed the drug use, while another actress, who tested negative for drug consumption, has been listed as a witness in the case.

A total of 88 individuals have been named as accused, including a Nigerian national identified as Augstin Dada. Of these, 79 face charges of consuming narcotic substances. Police have submitted call detail records (CDRs) of the accused to the court.

During the raid, the police seized MDMA tablets and crystals, 5 grams of cocaine, Rs 500 currency notes laced with cocaine, a large quantity of ganja, five mobile phones, and luxury vehicles, including Volkswagen and Land Rover cars, from GM Farmhouse in Singena Agrahara, near Electronics City, the venue of the party.

The anti-narcotics wing of the Karnataka Police conducted the raid on May 20, following reports of illegal drug use. The investigation revealed that around 100 people attended the party, most of whom have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The organizers reportedly brought over 25 individuals from Andhra Pradesh to Bengaluru for the event.

In a notable development, a pass belonging to an Andhra Pradesh MLA was found in one of the cars parked at the farmhouse, further raising suspicions. Preliminary investigations identified an individual named Hari from Hyderabad as the organizer, who allegedly arranged the party under the guise of a birthday celebration.

The rave was raided in the early hours, after it continued beyond 2 a.m. Police discovered more than 15 luxury cars at the venue. Telugu actress Hema was arrested on June 3 in connection with the case but was later released on bail.

In a video statement following the raid, Hema claimed she was not present at the party and was instead at a farm in Hyderabad at the time. However, police refuted her claims. The actress also made headlines by creating a scene during her medical test, accusing the media of reporting ‘fake news.’

The investigation also explored the possibility of a sex racket operating alongside the drug supply. Five individuals were arrested before the case was transferred from the Electronics City police station to the Central Crime Branch’s Anti-Narcotics Wing. Additionally, three police personnel were suspended for negligence in connection with the case.
