Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy unveiled the 20-foot bronze statue of Telangana Talli this evening at the Secretariat premises in Hyderabad. The statue, a symbol of Telangana’s spirit and cultural heritage, was inaugurated amidst Vedic chants in the presence of ministers, MLAs, and officials. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also honored renowned Telangana lyricist Andesri for his significant contributions.
The Telangana Talli statue, adorned with traditional elements such as a gunupusa, haaram, nose ring, green saree, bangles, and anklets, reflects the region’s historical and cultural identity. The statue embodies the fighting spirit of icons like Chakali Ailamma and Sammakka-Saralamma. Traditional symbols, including ears of rice, jowar, bajra, and corn, placed in her hands, represent the state’s agricultural heritage.
The unveiling ceremony attracted a massive crowd, turning the Secretariat and Tank Bund areas into a sea of people. Cultural programs featuring traditional Telangana music and dance added to the grandeur of the event, showcasing the vibrancy of the state’s heritage. Artists and performers from across Telangana participated in the celebrations, reflecting the unity and pride of the region.
State Abbreviation Changed to ‘TG’
During the event, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced that the state’s abbreviation would officially change from ‘TS’ to ‘TG,’ aligning with the aspirations of its people. He described the day as a historic milestone and emphasized that Telangana’s rich culture and history had long been overlooked.
Revanth Reddy recalled how, during the Telangana movement, the state was commonly referred to as ‘TG’ by its people. However, the previous administration’s decision to adopt ‘TS’ was perceived as disregarding public sentiment. The decision to restore ‘TG,’ he explained, symbolizes respect for the people’s wishes and reaffirms the state’s distinct identity.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the significance of “Jaya Jayahe Telangana,” a song synonymous with the state’s struggle for self-determination. He criticized the lack of recognition the song received after Telangana’s formation and declared it the official state song. The move has been widely welcomed by cultural organizations and the public, who view it as a step toward preserving the legacy of the Telangana movement.
Revanth Reddy underscored the significant contributions of poets and artists during the Telangana movement, pledging that his administration would honor their legacy. As part of this commitment, the government plans to establish a dedicated cultural center in Hyderabad to celebrate the achievements of those who contributed to the state’s formation. He stated that his government is committed to driving Telangana toward welfare and prosperity after years of perceived neglect and discrimination.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka also addressed the gathering, drawing attention to the historical importance of December 9. He noted that the date marks the first official announcement by the central government regarding the formation of Telangana, a milestone in the state’s long struggle for water, funds, and jobs.
Bhatti Vikramarka praised the resilience of the people who participated in the movement, emphasizing that their sacrifices laid the foundation for the creation of Telangana. He criticized the previous decade of governance, alleging unfulfilled promises and continued restrictions that hampered progress. The Deputy Chief Minister pointed to the significant strides made by the current administration, asserting that they have been working diligently to fulfill commitments and deliver tangible benefits to the people of Telangana.
The event concluded with a strong message of unity and progress, highlighting the government’s dedication to preserving Telangana’s heritage and addressing the aspirations of its citizens.
