Massive Multi-Agency Operation Underway to Rescue Trapped Workers in SLBC Tunnel
Nagarkurnool, Telangana: A large-scale rescue operation is underway at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel near Domalapenta in Nagarkurnool district, where eight workers remain trapped following a tunnel collapse. The rescue efforts have entered their fourth day, with eleven national and state agencies working in a coordinated manner to ensure the safe evacuation of the trapped individuals.

Rescue Teams Mobilized
Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that the rescue mission is being carried out with utmost urgency and priority, utilizing every possible resource. The operation involves highly specialized teams from across the country, including:
- Indian Army & Navy – Providing logistical and technical support.
- MARCOS Commandos – Assisting in complex rescue strategies.
- National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) & State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) – Leading the search and rescue operations.
- MORPH & HYDRAA – Offering specialized tunneling and geological expertise.
- Singareni & L&T tunnel experts – Assisting with structural integrity assessments and debris clearance.
- Geological Survey of India (GSI) & National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) – Conducting geological analysis to guide rescue operations.
- Navayuga Construction – Providing technical inputs and heavy machinery support.
The Minister assured that all possible measures are being taken to ensure the safety of the trapped workers, adding that expert teams are working round the clock to expedite the rescue process.

Rat-Hole Miners Join Rescue Efforts
In a significant development, a team of expert rat-hole miners has arrived at the site on Tuesday to assist in the ongoing rescue mission. These miners, who gained national recognition for their critical role in the Uttarkashi Silkyara Bend-Barkot tunnel collapse rescue operation last year, are known for their ability to navigate through narrow and unstable underground spaces. Their expertise is expected to play a crucial role in reaching the trapped workers.
Challenges in the Rescue Operation
Rescue teams are facing multiple challenges, including:
- Unstable tunnel structure – Risk of further collapses slowing down excavation efforts.
- Limited oxygen supply – Ensuring adequate ventilation to the trapped workers is a priority.
- Water seepage and debris clearance – Hindering access to the trapped individuals.
Despite these obstacles, the teams are employing advanced drilling techniques and remote sensing equipment to navigate the debris and reach the workers. High-powered pumps have been deployed to remove accumulated water, and oxygen pipelines have been extended to sustain the trapped individuals.

Government’s Response & Assurances
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy reaffirmed that the state government is closely monitoring the situation and is in constant coordination with the rescue teams. He expressed confidence that the combined expertise of multiple agencies would lead to a successful outcome.
The incident has drawn widespread attention, with concerned families and officials anxiously awaiting updates on the operation. The government has assured full support to the affected workers and their families, including medical assistance and rehabilitation measures post-rescue.
As the rescue efforts continue, authorities remain hopeful that the trapped workers will be brought out safely and at the earliest possible time.
