New Delhi, March 23: The Supreme Court of India on Saturday made public a video shared by the Commissioner of Police with the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, allegedly showing burnt cash piles purportedly found at the residence of Justice Yashwant Varma.

Along with the video, the apex court’s press statement included a report submitted by the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Justice Varma’s written response, and other related documents.

Justice Varma Denies Allegations, Calls It a “Conspiracy”

In his written explanation to the Chief Justice of the Delhi HC, Justice Varma denied any involvement, stating that the visuals were an attempt to frame and malign him. He linked the incident to previous social media allegations from December 2024, calling it part of a larger conspiracy.

“I unequivocally state that neither I nor any of my family members had stored or kept any cash or currency in that storeroom at any point of time. Our cash withdrawals have always been documented through banking channels, UPI applications, and cards,” he said.

Justice Varma further pointed out that none of his household staff had seen any burnt cash, and no official record of currency seizure was presented.

Supreme Court Forms Three-Member Inquiry Committee

On Friday, Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna set up a three-member committee to investigate the allegations against Justice Varma. The panel includes:
🔹 Justice Sheel Nagu – Chief Justice, Punjab & Haryana High Court
🔹 Justice G.S. Sandhawalia – Chief Justice, Himachal Pradesh High Court
🔹 Justice Anu Sivaraman – Judge, Karnataka High Court

Additionally, the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court has been directed not to assign any judicial work to Justice Varma until further notice.

This high-profile case has sparked widespread discussions within legal and political circles, raising concerns over judicial integrity and accountability.
