India’s Historic Victory in Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025: A 27-Year Dream Fulfilled

New Delhi/Hyderabad, March 27, 2025: India has scripted history in the ISTAF Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025, securing a gold medal in the men’s team event, a silver medal in the women’s team event, and a bronze medal in the doubles category. This remarkable achievement marks a milestone in the country’s Sepak Takraw journey and is expected to significantly boost the sport’s popularity nationwide.

Perika Suresh, Secretary of the Sepak Takraw Federation of India (STFI), hailed the victory as the realization of a 27-year-old dream. Addressing the media alongside Sepak Takraw International Federation (ISTAF) Vice President Prem Raj on Wednesday, he said, “This triumph is a historic moment for Indian Sepak Takraw. Just as India’s Cricket World Cup victory in 1983 transformed the cricketing landscape, we believe this success will elevate Sepak Takraw’s status in India.”

India’s Growing Sepak Takraw Legacy

Suresh highlighted that India has been making consistent efforts to promote Sepak Takraw, particularly in Hyderabad and Warangal, where major tournaments have been organized over the years. He recalled that Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad hosted the Sepak Takraw World Cup in 2017, laying the foundation for the sport’s steady rise in the country.

Most recently, the Sepak Takraw National Games were successfully held in Warangal, further encouraging young athletes to take up the sport. With India’s latest World Cup triumph, Suresh expressed confidence that more players, sponsors, and institutions will come forward to support Sepak Takraw, helping it grow beyond its niche following.

Calls for Government Recognition and Support

Given the sport’s increasing popularity and India’s global success, Suresh reiterated the long-standing demand for greater government support, inclusion in national sports programs like Khelo India, and enhanced infrastructure for training facilities. He emphasized that continued investment in Sepak Takraw could position India as a dominant force on the international stage.

With India’s stellar performance in the ISTAF Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025, the sport has taken a giant leap forward. Enthusiasts and players alike hope that this victory will serve as a turning point, propelling Sepak Takraw into mainstream sports culture in India.
