Former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash Murdered; Wife Pallavi Named Prime Accused

Bengaluru, April 20, 2025 — In a shocking incident that has sent tremors through Karnataka’s police and civil society circles, former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash (68) was brutally murdered at his residence in HSR Layout on Sunday evening. His wife, Pallavi, has been arrested and is the prime suspect in what police describe as a “gruesome and frenzied” attack.

Om Prakash was found lying in a pool of blood with more than 10 stab wounds inflicted on his chest, abdomen, and arms. Investigators believe a kitchen knife was used in the fatal assault, which occurred around 4:30 PM.

Shortly after the incident, Pallavi reportedly made a chilling video call to a friend — the wife of a serving IPS officer — during which she showed her husband’s lifeless body and declared, “I’ve killed the monster.” The friend immediately alerted the police, prompting swift action.

During initial interrogation, Pallavi claimed she acted in self-defense. She alleged that Om Prakash had attempted to kill both her and their daughter. According to her statement, the couple had endured years of domestic abuse, including mental and physical harassment. She also accused Om Prakash of recently attempting to poison their food by mixing insulin and sanitizer, which she described as the final provocation.

Police sources indicate the murder may have been fueled by a combination of longstanding domestic disputes, property issues, and psychological stress. Allegations have surfaced that Om Prakash transferred most of his assets to his son and sister, reportedly sidelining Pallavi — a move that may have deepened the discord. Investigators are also probing claims regarding Pallavi’s mental health, as part of their comprehensive inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the murder.

Pallavi has been taken into custody, and her daughter — who was present during the incident — is also being questioned to determine her knowledge or possible involvement. During interrogation, Pallavi allegedly told investigators, “I killed a vile, abusive man, and I feel no remorse.”

Om Prakash’s body has been sent to St. John’s Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The autopsy report is expected to provide more clarity on the nature and timing of the wounds.

The murder of a high-ranking retired IPS officer under such circumstances has shocked the law enforcement community and triggered widespread public reaction. The case has ignited debates around domestic violence, mental health, and familial breakdowns — especially within high-pressure households.

Police are investigating all angles, including possible premeditation, and are awaiting forensic and digital evidence to piece together the full timeline of events.
