Tehran, June 8:
Iran’s main military command, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, announced on Monday that the country’s armed forces have ceased their military operations against Israel, while warning that any future Israeli attacks would provoke a significantly stronger response.
According to a statement carried by the semi-official Fars news agency, the headquarters declared that Iranian military operations had been conducted in support of the Lebanese people following Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs.
The military command cautioned that any renewed Israeli “aggression and malicious acts,” including operations in southern Lebanon, would be met with a far more severe and crushing response from Iran.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that Tehran remains committed to both national defense and diplomatic engagement.
“Our priority is national security and the peace of our people. We will defend the rights of the nation with authority and will not retreat in the face of any threat. Diplomacy and defence are the two wings of national power; we have neither abandoned the field nor the negotiating table,” the President wrote on social media platform X.
The Iranian military headquarters also accused the United States of supporting Israeli military actions and asserted that Israel should have learned from Iran’s response during the recent escalation.
According to Israeli media reports, Israel suspended its strikes on Iran at the request of US President Donald Trump. A senior Israeli official was quoted as saying that Israel would target Beirut’s southern suburbs if Hezbollah continued attacks on Israeli communities.
The latest tensions followed missile strikes launched by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC stated that its aerospace force fired ballistic missiles at the Ramat David Air Base in northern Israel in retaliation for what it described as Israeli crimes in southern Lebanon.
Iran reportedly continued its missile operations on Monday, targeting the Nevatim and Tel Nof air bases along with certain industrial facilities in Israel.
In response, the Israeli military carried out airstrikes on multiple targets inside Iran, including a petrochemical facility in Khuzestan province.
Adding to the heightened tensions, an Iranian military source told Tasnim news agency that Iran remains prepared for a prolonged conflict with Israel and is ready to respond to any actions affecting its interests or those of its allies.
The announcement of a halt in operations comes amid growing international concern over the risk of a wider regional conflict involving Iran, Israel, Lebanon, and other actors in the Middle East.
