Hyderabad: Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has urged Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to expedite approvals, funding and implementation of several major infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity, easing traffic congestion and boosting regional economic development.
Venkat Reddy met Gadkari after the inauguration of Chintan Shivir-2026, a two-day national conclave on highway infrastructure held at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat’s Narmada district. The two ministers discussed several Telangana projects awaiting Central approvals and financial sanctions.
6-km Double-Decker Corridor for Hyderabad
To address growing traffic congestion in eastern Hyderabad, Venkat Reddy proposed a 6-km double-decker elevated corridor between LB Nagar and Hayathnagar.
The Centre has already approved ₹545 crore for developing the LB Nagar–Malkapur stretch of NH-65 into a six-lane highway with service roads. The minister requested that the elevated corridor be included in the 2026–27 annual plan, particularly in view of the proposed extension of the Miyapur–LB Nagar Metro corridor to Hayathnagar under Phase II.
₹1,230 Crore Ropeway Projects
The minister also sought approval for five ropeway projects in Telangana under the Parvatmala scheme, with an estimated cost of ₹1,230 crore.
The projects are intended to improve connectivity to major tourism and spiritual destinations while providing an eco-friendly transport option for devotees, tourists and local commuters.
Expansion of Hyderabad–Vijayawada NH-65
Venkat Reddy urged the Centre to expedite the expansion of the Hyderabad–Vijayawada–Machilipatnam NH-65 into a six-lane highway.
He said traffic on the highway has crossed 1.20 lakh Passenger Car Units (PCUs) and pointed to several accident-prone locations and hazardous stretches. He stressed that the expansion is essential to meet rising traffic demand and improve road safety between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Elevated Corridor Through Nallamala Forest
The minister also requested approval for an elevated corridor on NH-765 between Hyderabad and Srisailam, particularly through the tiger reserve forest area.
According to the proposal, the elevated structure would reduce the need for road expansion inside the forest, improve safety and convenience for Srisailam-bound travellers, and help protect the ecology of the Nallamala forest region.
33 Road Projects Seeking ₹1,227.75 Crore
Venkat Reddy requested Central funding for 33 road development projects under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for 2026–27.
The proposed projects cover 511.68 km at an estimated cost of ₹1,227.75 crore. The minister said the projects proposed by MPs and MLAs would support balanced regional development across Telangana.
Push for Hyderabad Regional Ring Road
The minister also sought speedy financial and Union Cabinet approval for the northern section of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR).
The 161.518-km northern section will run through Sangareddy–Narsapur–Toopran–Gajwel–Jagadevpur–Bhongir–Choutuppal. Venkat Reddy said the Telangana government is prepared to bear 50 per cent of the land acquisition cost.
He further stated that award approvals for more than 90 per cent of the land have already been secured and that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited tenders.
The minister also requested the Centre to take up the southern section of the RRR on the same priority, completing the ring around Hyderabad. He said the southern RRR would be important for future developments, including Bharat Future City, industrial parks and radial roads.
Hyderabad–Amaravati Greenfield Expressway
Venkat Reddy also sought acceleration of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and further progress on the proposed Hyderabad–Amaravati Greenfield Expressway.
He said the expressway would strengthen connectivity between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and support freight movement. Connecting the expressway to a dry port in Telangana, he added, could boost industrial and economic activity, while a possible spur to Bandar Port could further improve logistics connectivity.
The Telangana minister urged the Union government to expedite approvals and funding for these projects, stressing that they would strengthen interstate connectivity, improve mobility and support the state’s long-term infrastructure and economic growth.
