In a major political development in Andhra Pradesh, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led NDA alliance has captured Pulivendula Municipality in Kadapa district, marking a historic breakthrough in the traditional stronghold of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. For the first time in its 43-year political history, the TDP has established control over Pulivendula Municipality.
In the municipal chairperson election held on Tuesday, TDP candidate Thugutla Geetha Kumari defeated YSRCP candidate Y.S. Prameelamma by a margin of nearly 13,900 votes. The result marks a significant setback for the YSRCP in a town that has remained politically associated with the YS family for decades.
NDA Alliance Wins 37 Out of 40 Wards
The alliance also registered a decisive victory in the municipal ward elections. Out of the total 40 wards in Pulivendula, the TDP secured 34 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won two, and the Jana Sena Party (JSP) secured one seat. The YSRCP managed to win only three wards.
With 37 wards going to the NDA alliance, the results underline the scale of its victory in Jagan Mohan Reddy’s home turf.
TDP Alliance Sweeps Kadapa District Municipalities
The alliance’s victories extended beyond Pulivendula. It also secured control of several other urban local bodies across Kadapa district, including Badvel, Jammalamadugu, Kamalapuram, Mydukur, Proddatur, Rajampet and Yerraguntla.
The BJP secured the Yerraguntla local body, while TDP candidates won in the other listed municipalities and the Kamalapuram Nagar Panchayat.
Major Political Setback for YSRCP
The Pulivendula result carries considerable political significance as the town has long been considered the political base of the YS family. The outcome is expected to influence local political equations in Kadapa district and provide fresh momentum to the ruling NDA alliance.
The results mark a notable change in the district’s municipal political landscape, with the TDP-led alliance establishing its presence in areas traditionally dominated by the YSRCP.
