Hyderabad, July 05: The General Secretary of Gorla Mekalu Pempakamdarula Sangam (GMPS) has announced a temporary postponement of the siege on the Directorate of Animal Husbandry, following successful negotiations with the Director. On Wednesday, GMPS state team members held discussions with Animal Husbandry Department Director Dr. Ramchander. During the meeting, GMPS leaders presented ten demands related to the distribution of Sheep.
The Director acknowledged the demand for direct money transfers without middlemen involvement, but clarified that it was beyond his jurisdiction. However, he assured the GMPS team that the sheep distribution program would be expedited, with distribution to ten thousand people expected by the end of July.
GMPS emphasized the cancellation of Sheep purchase centers proposed by the state government for Sheep units. The Director assured that beneficiaries who have already paid the required share will have the option to choose and purchase sheep from locations outside a 300 km radius. A decision on this matter will be taken soon, allowing beneficiaries to buy sheep from their preferred sources.

The remaining beneficiaries will receive sheep distribution in two phases. GMPS also raised concerns about the unnecessary requirement for caste verification certificates, which they believe is wasting time and resources. They requested that sheep units be allocated directly to selected beneficiaries, which the Director promised to consider. Additionally, the appointment of officers to oversee society elections was assured.
Actions are being taken against companies that fail to pay insurance for sheep involved in accidents. GMPS General Secretary Udutha Ravinder confirmed that, in light of progress on demands for expedited sheep distribution and direct money transfers, the siege scheduled for the Animal Husbandry Department’s office has been temporarily postponed. The decision was made in accordance with the Director’s assurance.
