Hyderabad August 12: In a well-coordinated operation, Hyderabad Customs officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) successfully intercepted and seized a total of 8 kgs of smuggled gold valued at Rs. 4.86 Crore on August 12, 2023. The operation was based on specific intelligence received.

During the operation, four passengers were apprehended. In the first instance, a passenger arriving from Bangkok was found to be concealing 2 kgs of cut gold bars worth Rs. 1,21,34,000/- within their trousers. Similarly, another passenger arriving on the same flight from Bangkok had 1.78 kgs of cut gold bars, valued at Rs. 1,08,81,165/-, discreetly hidden within their clothing.

The third case involved a passenger from Sharjah, who had concealed 2.17 kgs of gold, valued at Rs. 1,31,77,524/-, in paste form. Similarly, a passenger arriving from Dubai was found to be carrying 2.05 kgs of gold worth Rs. 1,24,31,283/-, concealed as paste within their undergarments.

In total, the seized smuggled gold amounted to 8 kgs, with a combined value of Rs. 4.86 Crores. All four individuals involved in these cases were arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act. The investigation into the matter is currently underway.
