Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful speech at the G20 Summit Session 1 held in New Delhi today. In his address, Prime Minister Modi emphasized India’s rich cultural diversity and commitment to democratic principles. He referred to India as the ‘Mother of Democracy’ and highlighted the country’s age-old belief in dialogue and democracy.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi stressed the concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ which translates to ‘world is one family,’ as the guiding principle of India’s global conduct. He emphasized India’s responsibility towards ‘One Earth’ and unveiled the ‘Lifestyle for Environment Mission’ as a part of India’s efforts to promote climate security.

India’s green initiatives were a significant focus of the speech. Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s leadership in the solar revolution, natural farming, and the ‘National Green Hydrogen Mission.’ He also announced the launch of the ‘Global Biofuel Alliance,’ inviting all G-20 countries to participate.

Addressing climate finance, Prime Minister Modi commended developed countries for their commitment to provide 100 billion dollars for climate finance. He also applauded the G-20 for adopting the ‘Green Development Pact’ in support of sustainable and green growth.

In a bid to shift the focus from Carbon Credit to positive initiatives, Prime Minister Modi proposed the ‘Green Credit Initiative.’ He urged G-20 countries to work towards promoting positive environmental actions.

Furthermore, India proposed the ‘G20 Satellite Mission for Environment and Climate Observation,’ emphasizing data sharing for the benefit of all countries, particularly those in the Global South.

Prime Minister Modi concluded his speech by welcoming the attendees and expressing his eagerness to hear their thoughts on these crucial global issues.

The G20 Summit in New Delhi is set to continue with discussions on these proposals, marking India’s active role in shaping the global environmental agenda.
